Xiaomi Inc. today launched the Mi Notebook Air a slim and lightweight laptop device that comes in two variants a 12.5inch and 13.3 inch one. This is Xiaomi’s answer to the Macbook Air line from Apple. The Mi Notebook Air features a full metal body, edge to edge glass protection on the display, backlit keyboards, Runs on Windows 10 and holds Sata based SSD’s with an additional PCIe slot that can be used to expand storage but only Xiaomi can service it for you. All these features are same across both the variants.
So The flagship model here is the bigger one with the 13.3 Inch Full-HD display, an Intel i5-6200U Skylake Dual Core processor that is clocked at 2.3Ghz (Turbo upto 2.7GHz) plus an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU (with 1GB GDDR5 RAM) dedicated graphics, 8GB DDR4 Ram, 256GB Sata SSD, a 40Wh battery that should be good for upto 9.5 Hours that can also go from 0 to 50% in half an hour when using the bundled USB-C Charger. All this is packed in a 14.8mm thin body that just weighs at around 1.28Kg. Even at this size The Mi Notebook Air laptop holds 2 USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI port, a USB-C port and a 1MP Webcam. This variant will cost you $750 or Rs.52,500. The smaller and more pocket friendly variant comes with a 12.5 Inch Full-HD display, an Intel Core M3 processor, 4GB Ram, 128GB Sata SSD and no dedicated graphics. All this is packed in a 12.9mm thin body that just weighs at around a kilogram. So in this variant you get only 1 USB 3.0 port but the HDMI and Type-C port are still found. This variant will cost you just $520 or Rs.36,400. The added advantage in this variant is that you get two hours more battery life and a slimmer and lighter profile.
Both these laptops are priced extremly well and aim at capturing the market with students looking to get productvity laptops at good prices. The Mi Notebook Air is launching in China on the 2nd of August 2016 and as always there is no news yet about the Indian or Global launch of the Mi Notebook Air. We are hoping this product does launch in India but Xiaomi India has a track record of not releasing a large number of their products, so for now we can only speculate.
