The Avermedia AM310
The AverMedia AM310 is a plug and play USB 2.0 microphone that allows you to record audio like a professional. With the rise of many new content creators just like us, we often look for some of the best solutions at a budget and this microphone is a compelling offer from Avermedia. We all know how important the audio quality of a video or a podcast matters, for most of us it is the deal-breaker. With the rising need of professional sounding microphones, the Avermedia AM310 hits the sweet spot in between the budget and premium segment. The AM310 is one of the best dedicated microphones if you are just starting! as it is cheaper than a Blue Yeti. It is a uni-directional microphone which has a cardioid pattern. For those of you who unfamiliar of what that means, it is a heart-shaped pattern that is most sensitive at the front and is least sensitive at the back. Meaning that when you record with the microphone facing towards you then you get crisp and clear audio. The Avermedia AM310 retails for around Rs 10,000 on Amazon India. The AM310 is targeted towards the Streaming, Gaming and Podcast communities who produce content for Youtube, Twitch and other platforms where the need for studio-grade audio is the highest. We got our hands on the AM310 and now we’re going to review it!

The Microphone stand has to be assembled and then the microphone has to be screwed in place using the mount. It is fairly straightforward to do.
The AVerMedia M310 comes in a single color which is the black variant. It is a compact and well-designed product. The M310 has two physical buttons on the Microphone. The one in front of the microphone is used to adjust the headphone volume at the back and isn’t used to adjust the microphone volume aka Gain. Pressing this button will activate the mute button and the light above will glow “Red” otherwise it normally glows “Blue”. You can change the angle of the microphone using the mount which is always a plus.
The other button is used to switch from PC to MONITOR. Meaning if it is in PC mode then it will output to your computer and in MONITOR mode it will output to the 3.5mm headphone jack provided below it to hear how the microphone sounds in real-time! The AM310 is built using metal, the only plastic component on it is the ring around the microphone. The Microphone does come with a stand which is fairly easy to put together. The base does have rubber padding which helps the stand to not slide off your desk. Ideally, you must have the mic facing towards you to get the best possible sounding output.

The Specs of the AM310 “sound” great on paper, we’ve tested this against a normal headset microphone. Since it is a condenser microphone it has a high sensitivity meaning that it picks up even the faintest of sounds like a fan or an AC. So we had to test the AM310 in a quiet environment. To test the microphone we used Adobe Audition 2019. As expected the microphone delivered exceptional audio quality. You do have to tweak your audio settings to find what’s best for you, as it easily picks up any background noise. But this a general problem with most of the USB condenser microphones and can be fixed easily. In most of the scenarios we put the AM310 in, it never failed to deliver what it has promised. But we would recommend using it in a quiet environment for the best performance. We used the mic to stream and had no audio hiccups anywhere and it was fairly easy to set up with OBS Studio. Even with music, it picked up the instruments and vocals was clear and rich. The only thing to watch out about this mic and other Cardioid microphones, in general, is at which angle you place them towards the audio source. If they aren’t placed at the most optimal angle then you won’t get the best out of this microphone. But overall this microphone is amazing to use and considering its price, it is one of the best microphones to buy on a budget. I would personally recommend you to use a boom arm for the AM310 as it will offer more flexibility and will reduce the desk vibration felt by the microphone.
How to set up the AM310?
The AM310 comes with a Type-A connector to plug into your computer on one end and a Type-B connector to connect to the microphone on the other side. As it is a plug and play device it does not require additional software or driver installation. Once inserted, your audio driver will pick it up and you can select it as a microphone. For our setup, since we have Realtek audio we got a popup as soon as we inserted the AM310.
Now once that’s done if you haven’t switched to your AVerMedia M310 as your default microphone input, Here’s how.
- Step 1: Go to Start Menu → Control Panel → Hardware and Sound → Sound → Manage Audio Devices
- Step 2: Under “Recording”, right-click to ENABLE the AVerMedia AM310.

How To Record using the AM310?
The AVerMedia AM310 does not come with any recording software, so you will have to install a free audio recorder like Audacity. If you want a more Professional solution to record audio, you can try Adobe Audition as it comes with a lot of effects and a very easy to use interface! If you want to record instruments and make music then FLStudio is the way to go.
The stand that comes included with the AM310 isn’t that great. It will easily fall over if you accidentally tap it. Also, the rubber pads do not stop any desk vibration and the vibration sound will be picked up by the microphone. The USB cable is only 3 meters in length, so if you want to connect this to a boom arm or any setup that requires more than 3 meters then you’ll have to get another wire to suit your needs.
The AM310 is completely worth the price if you know how to use it properly. It is recommended to use this in a quiet room where there is not much interference to get the best out of the microphone.
